Many studies of swimming performance tests have been reported in the literature (Burris, 1964; Fox, 1959; Jackson et al., 1979; Nowlan, 1979; Rosentswieg, 1968; Santeusanio, 1980). Swim literature also abounds with utilitarian swimming tests (Cureton, 1943; Guilbert, 1973; Lanoue, 1963; Reece, 1980; Silvia, 1966). Lifesaving and survival swimming skills are defmed in an array of swimming test items with many similarities from one lifesaving society to another. These swimming tests have face validity and to some extent logical validity. The purpose of this study was to establish the construct validity of the Universite de Moncton swimming performance test.
